Synthesis Paper

What I learned about synthesis papers is they may seem easy, but they are actually very hard. It is not easy to compare authors and what they are writing about and also compare it to your own writing. It was interesting to see how the authors compared and contrasted. The topic of the readings were also interesting to compare and contrast.

Death of 2 Firefighters

Here is an article about the death of 2 firefighters being blamed on the department.

This article is about a fire that occurred in December of 2010, which 2 firefighters lives were taken and 19 were injured. The deaths are being blamed on the department. The article says that is was their fault because out of the 13 firefighters inside the building, only 5 had radios. However, the 5 that did have radios were not communicating with their supervisor outside and letting them know what was happening on the inside. The department spokesman explained some of the actions they will now be taking in order for their men to be safer, which included more radios and putting tags on each truck to ensure who is in which truck.

Objective Summary

Writing an objective summary, Ithought was fairly easy. The hardest part was getting all that was said in 225 words. I also struggle with run on sentances so it gave me some extra practice. I read “What You Eat is You Business”, i enjoyed the reading. It was very interesting, it was about Radle Blako’s thoughts on how the govenment is trying to halt obesity. He thinks they are going about it the wrong way. He talks about the things they are doing to try to stop it such as, taking junk food out of school vending machines and adding a “fat tax”. In college we’re going to work on a lot of objective summaries, so might as well get good at it now.
